We are seeking an experienced Database Engineer to design, develop, optimize, and manage enterprise-grade relational and non-relational database systems. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in database architecture, performance tuning, ETL processes, and large-scale data management, with exposure to geospatial datasets, cloud platforms, and modern DevOps practices. The role involves supporting mission-critical applications, ensuring data security, availability, scalability, and enabling seamless integration across diverse data ecosystems.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
Experience
- Minimum 8+ years of experience in database development, administration, and management of large-scale operational and analytical databases.
- Proven expertise in database design, data modeling, SQL query optimization, indexing strategies, and performance tuning.
- Hands-on experience in designing and managing production-grade databases including:
- PostgreSQL/PostGIS
- MySQL
- Oracle Database
- MongoDB
- Cassandra
- Strong experience working with ETL/ELT processes, data integration frameworks, and workflow automation.
- Experience with cloud database platforms such as:
- AWS RDS
- Amazon Aurora
- Azure SQL Database
- Google Cloud SQL
- Exposure to Python or R for data processing, automation, and analytics workflows.
- Experience managing large-volume datasets, preferably within geospatial, remote sensing, satellite imagery, or IoT environments.
- Prior experience working on Government, Public Sector, Smart City, GIS, or large enterprise projects is highly preferred.
- Working knowledge of containerized environments and DevOps practices using technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
Domain Knowledge
- Understanding of geospatial data structures, coordinate reference systems (CRS), projections, and spatial indexing techniques.
- Familiarity with OGC, ISO metadata standards, and spatial database best practices.
- Knowledge of database security, high availability, disaster recovery, and compliance frameworks.
Certifications (Mandatory/Preferred)

Key Responsibilities
Database Design & Development
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable relational and non-relational database architectures for enterprise and analytical systems.
- Develop optimized data models, database schemas, entity-relationship diagrams (ERDs), and normalization strategies.
- Implement and manage PostgreSQL/PostGIS, Oracle, MySQL, MongoDB, and other database technologies based on business requirements.
- Define and implement effective indexing, partitioning, and storage strategies for high-performance data access.
Data Integration & ETL
- Design and support robust data ingestion pipelines from:
- Remote sensing platforms
- Satellite data sources
- IoT systems
- Enterprise applications
- External APIs
- Develop ETL/ELT workflows for data transformation, validation, and integration.
- Create stored procedures, triggers, functions, views, and automation scripts to improve operational efficiency and data consistency.
Performance Optimization
- Monitor database health and conduct proactive performance tuning.
- Analyze query execution plans and optimize SQL workloads for performance and scalability.
- Implement partitioning, replication, caching, and indexing mechanisms for large datasets.
- Optimize spatial queries, geometry processing, and location-based analytics.
Geospatial Data Management
- Manage spatial and non-spatial datasets within enterprise GIS environments.
- Maintain metadata repositories and data catalogs adhering to OGC and ISO standards.
- Support geospatial interoperability through APIs, web services, and GIS platforms.
- Enable efficient integration with web, mobile, and enterprise GIS applications.
Security, Availability & Governance
- Implement role-based access control (RBAC), authentication, authorization, and data security policies.
- Design and maintain backup, recovery, replication, and high-availability solutions.
- Support disaster recovery planning and business continuity requirements.
- Apply security patches, upgrades, and vulnerability remediation activities.
- Conduct database audits and ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
DevOps & Cloud Operations
- Support cloud-native database deployments and hybrid infrastructure environments.
- Collaborate with DevOps teams on CI/CD-enabled database deployment processes.
- Implement database monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions.
- Participate in infrastructure automation and containerized database deployments.
Support & Collaboration
- Provide Level 2/Level 3 technical support for database-related incidents and performance issues.
- Collaborate with application developers, data engineers, GIS specialists, and solution architects to implement robust data solutions.
- Prepare technical documentation, standards, and operating procedures.
- Mentor junior team members and contribute to database best practices across the organization.
